What is it and How Does it Work?

Refrigerated air and an air conditioning unit are two different cooling machines for homes. The most notable difference is that refrigerated air keeps the cold air close while an air conditioner pushes the cold air around. An El Paso refrigerated air conditioner runs on coolant rather than using the air from outside. No matter which system you’re interested in, Scott’s can install both!

There are multiple steps that go into the process of a refrigerated air unit. See below for how they work.

  • The hot air that is inside your home is pulled into the air vents and passed through a filter.

  • The air then flows through the evaporator coils, which have the cold liquid refrigerant. The refrigerant absorbs the heat from the air, thus causing the refrigerant to change from a liquid to a gas.

  • The cooled air is now blown back into the room by the fan.

  • The warm refrigerant flows through a compressor that pressurizes it to become hotter than the temperature outdoors.

  • Now that the refrigerant gas is hotter than the outside air, heat is then transferred from the condenser coils to the outside. Once the refrigerant loses its heat, it turns back into a liquid.

  • In order to make the refrigerant cold enough to be able to go through the cycle again, it needs to be depressurized. Once it’s cooled down to the needed temperature, the refrigerant flows through the coils, and the refrigerated air cycle starts again.
