Preparing Your Air Conditioner For Warmer Weather

March 18, 2024

Winter is nearly behind us, and spring is right around the corner! In El Paso, that means it’s time to get your air conditioner ready to keep you cool when warmer weather rolls around. That includes investing in professional air conditioning service and repairs and much more.

To find out how to get your AC ready for spring and summer, Scott Heating, Cooling & Plumbing is the team to reach out to. Contact us online or call (915) 595-4529 to learn more about our services.

Replace the Air Filter

The first step in preparing your AC for warmer weather is to check and replace the air filter. Your air filter is attached to the furnace on your indoor unit and is responsible for cleaning the air that gets circulated by your AC unit. It likely got extremely dirty during the winter, so replacing it before summer is essential. If you are unable to do this, it is important to contact an air conditioning service in El Paso.

Clean Up Around the AC

With your air filter replaced, take a walk around your outside unit and inspect the area. Clean up any brush, debris, plants, and tree limbs that are surrounding the AC so that they don’t interfere with the air conditioners’ operation. Plants and debris will get sucked into the AC and cause damage if you don’t clear them.

Clean the Coils

With the area around the air conditioner clean and clear, take 10 minutes to clean the AC coils. To do this, simply use a garden hose and spray into the air conditioner at an upward angle. Keep spraying until dirt and debris stop flowing out the bottom of the unit.

Give the Unit a Test Run

With the coils clean and a fresh air filter, give the air conditioner a test run. Go inside to your breaker box and switch the air conditioner breaker to the ON position. Next, go outside and make sure the disconnect breaker next to the AC is also in the ON position. If everything checks out, go to your thermostat and switch it to Cooling mode so that the AC turns on.

Let the unit run for several minutes as you listen to make sure nothing sounds amiss. If you notice any strange noises or odors, turn the AC off immediately and call an HVAC technician.

Invest in Professional Air Conditioning Service and Repairs

It’s also a good idea to invest in professional El Paso air conditioning service and repairs before summer kicks into full gear. That way, if your AC does have any problems, you can get them fixed before every AC technician in El Paso is swamped for weeks. Even if you don’t have any major issues, you should invest in air conditioning service at least once per year, ideally before summer.

If you need AC repairs or service, Scott Heating, Cooling & Plumbing is here to help. We’ll make sure your AC is up and running and ready to go for summer. Call (915) 595-4529 today to get started.
